Karnataka to have stadium at Taluk level

Mysore, Apr 25 (UNI)Each of the 175 taluks in Karnataka will have a stadium to encourage sports persons, particularly in rural parts of the state, Sports and Youth Services Minister Alkod Hanumanthappa said today.

Speaking to newsmen here he said the stadia would be constructed at a cost of Rs 70 lakh each.

He said the allocation for sports had been enhanced by two crores to Rs five crores in the budget this year. He also instructed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to see that the sports cess of two per cent from the zilla panchyat, corporation and also from the urban development authorities was provided to his ministry to encourage the sports activities in the state.

Mr Hanumanthappa said though the shortage of coaches for various sports in the state and same would be filled up only after the adoption of the cadre and recruitment rules through KPSC, priority would be given to the existing coaches, who are working on temporary basis.

On sports promotion in the universities and other educational institutions, he said the government had already instructed the universities and other institutions including professional colleges to reserve seats for sports persons and were the government would take serious note of any violation.
