Hiremath fights for SC/ST daily wage workers' demand

Gulbarga, Apr 26 (UNI) Karnataka State SC/ST Government and Semi-Government Daily Wage Workers Association Honorary President Chandrasekhar Hiremath today resorted to an indefinite fast in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here in support of a long-pending demand.

The Association had been demanding regularisation of the services of about 17,000 workers in various government and semi-government departments for over an year now. As there was no response from the government, Mr Hiremath resorted to the indefinite fast.

The members had resorted to various agitations, including semi-naked procession, formation of human chain and demonstrations, over the last few days to draw the government's attention in vain.

Significantly, the Supreme Court had recently dismissed the daily wage workers' petition in this regard.
