Farmers thwart work on BML line
Patiala, Apr 25 (UNI) The work on Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's dream project for taking water to his home state through a distributory of the Bhakra Mainline (BML) canal was thwarted by state farmers when the officials came with machines and tractors to dig the canal today.
Reports received here said farmers countered the Irrigation officials today when they came with machines and tractors for digging the canal through BML in Azimgarh village near Samana.
The farmers, whose land was acquired by the Haryana government, claimed that they had not been adequately compensated for their land.
Hundreds of farmers laid themselves in front of tractors and digging machines and stopped the ongoing work. The authorities immediately called the police which created further tension. The reports said that the tiff between the officials and the farmers was continuing till the last reports came in.
