Allahabad, Apr 25 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today sought details about the progress made in the enforcement of Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation of Misuse) Act, 1994 from the Uttar Pradesh government.

UP principal secretary medical and health has been directed to file reply within a month in the matter. The said act was passed to check female foeticide.

Passing the order, Justice Sunil Ambwani observed, ''the enforcement of PNDT Act has become absolutely necessasry as there are repeated complaints of unauthorised use of modern diagnostic techniques of female infoeticides, as well as unauthorised persons operating ultra sound machines.'' The court said it must be given top priority as it was not only an offence under the PNDT Act, but an offence against humanity.

The court passed the order on a contempt petition filed by Rajesh Kumar Srivastava of Varanasi.
