Chennai Garment Unit to get WRAP Certification by 'May-Day'

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (UNI) Visaka Industries Limited's Garment Unit at Chennai, which was commissioned on January two,is expected to get Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production (WRAP) Certification from 'May Day' this year.

Out of 1200 garment factories in Chennai, only 11 are 'WRAP' certified. Visaka will be one amongst these 12 factories from May one.

Talking to newspersons here after the Board Meeting, Company's Managing Director G Vivekanand said ''We will also be introducing two shift working, in this unit shortly.'' He said during the first three months of Commercial Production, the Unit has made a nominal turnover of Rs 69.13 lacs.

The company has shipped three Containers of 100 per cent cotton trousers to Italy for labels SONNY BONO, DOUBLE ,B&BOGGI and a formal trouser consignment to BALLIN, Canada. It is also stitching garments for an American lable LEMON GRASS.

''We have tied up with a 35 year-old French buying house in Chennai, to completely book our 250 machines from July onwards.

Through them, we are currently doing an order of 8000 shirts for a label called JANKOVICH in Denmark'' The 250-machine facility with three sewing lines for 50,000 pieces per month installed in Chennai '' proved to be the right investment at the right tie which will increase our company's profitability and turnover in the coming years.'' ''Our sampling department with 16 machines and CADCAM facility can reproduce any complicated design, to enable the customer to book bulk orders faster'' ''Many buyers from Europe and few buying houses in India whomsoever visited us have shown interest to give their orders to us'' Dr Vivekanand said.

Total income of the spinning division of the company during the year was Rs 86.04 crore, compared to Rs 71.71 crores in the previous year, recording an increase of 20 per cent. The profit before tax of the division during the year was Rs 4.11 crore.

''Though the profits for the year 2005-06 as a whole for the division, has been less compared to previous year, the profit before tax for the fourth quarter of 2005.06 was Rs 109.09 lacs, compared to Rs 26.85 lacs during the corresponding quarter of the previous year, showing an upward trend,''he added.
