AITUC hails 'people's victory' in Nepal

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today welcomed the return of Parliamentary democracy in Nepal and said the ''victory of the people'' was a step closer to ushering in a ''Republic of Nepal''.

''Finally the King was forced to end his autocratic rule and declare the reinstatement of Parliament,'' said AITUC General Secretary Gurudas Das Gupta.

The political parties and mass organisations including trade unions played a remarkable role in the struggle for restoration of democracy, he added.

''The triumph and success achieved by the people of Nepal is yet another vindication of the axiom that the people's power can change the history,'' Mr Das Gupta said.
