Stipends for MP's OBC students

Bhopal, Apr 24 (UNI) The adverse economic disposition of Madhya Pradesh's Other Backward Classes students, aspiring to pursue higher studies in New Delhi-based institutions, would no longer be a hindrance.

The State government would not only meet rent, water, electricity charges but also provide stipends and lump sum grants.

Financial and administrative sanctions were accorded for ensuring the Chhatragraha Yojana's benefit to 50 students, an official release said, here today.

Director (Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare) Jabbar Dakwala said, ''The government will pay rent at the rate of Rs 1,000 per student per month, water and power charges for a year at Rs 50 per student per month. Each student will be paid scholarship of Rs 500 per month. The students will receive a grant of Rs 2,000 at the time of admission.'' A provision of more than Rs 9 lakh was made in the department's budget for this fiscal year, the release added.
