Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) A niece of late Chief Minister M G Ramachandran, Ms Leelavathy today alleged she was prevented from filing nomination as an Independent candidate in the high-profile Andipatti Constituency.

AIADMK Supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is seeking re-election from Andipatti in the May eight polls to the Assembly.

Talking to reporters, Ms Leelavathy, who donated a kidney to MGR when he suffered serious renal failure in the 80s, alleged she was abducted by a gang while preparing to leave for Andipatti after offering worship at a temple in Choolaimedu area here on April 19.

In a complaint filed with Choolaimedu police, she said the gang, after confining her in the vehicle, dropped her at her daughter's residence in Triplicane the next day. When she went to her assistant, Kumar's residence, she was again abducted by the gang, which had detained her in the vehicle, till this morning.

Threatening her with dire consequences, they assaulted her, asking, 'Do you know who is contesting from Andipatti?' Ms Leelavathy charged she was constantly subjected to harassment by present and past AIADMK regimes headed by Ms Jayalalithaa.

She was planning to file a petition with the Tamil Nadu Governor and the State Chief Electoral Officer in this regard.
