Maoists knock on Kolkata suburbs before polls

Barrackpore, Apr 24 (UNI) Keeping the police as mere onlooker, a group of Maoists under the banner of Gana Front gave a clarion call to boycott polls at a street meeting at Mahajatinagar and Agarpara of Khardah police station of North 24 paraganas.

While the district is going to hold polls for the ongoing state assembly elections on April 27, a couple of their leaders Gaur Chakraborty and Sanjoy Bose asked the people to stay away from polling describing it useless to vote for those candidates who were a part and parcel of the present feudal state.

They alleged that the people of our country in real sense could not enjoy independence though the country was freed from the British rulers.

They believed that the people would enjoy freedom only when they would be able to free their society from the clutch of quasi feudalism.

"Without agrarian revolution in the country, people cannot enjoy their freedom,' they said.

Elections are held only by the agents and stooges of the feudalists, they alleged.

They also pasted some posters in the area.
