Farmers should work in organic farming
Mysore, Apr 24: The financial condition of farmers can be improved by switching over to organic farming from chemical farming, National Azadi Bachao Andolan leader Rajiv Dixit opined.
Addressing a training camp for volunteers, organised by the Andolan's local unit here yesterday, he said chemical farming was expensive and gave poor yield. Hence farmers were unable to repay their loans and mounting debts drove them to commit suicide. On the other hand, organic farming would increase yield and improve product quality, he explained.
He announced that a 24-hour TV channel, Hindu Swaraj, named after Mahatma Gandhi's book, would be launched by July to spread the message of the Andolan. A radio station would also be opened by December, he added.
The trainees would be transformed into resource persons and used to spread awareness about organic farming among rural people, he said.
