72 pc polling in Bhaderwah- official
Jammu, Apr 24 (UNI) About 72 per cent voters today exercised their right to franchise in Bhaderwah Assembly constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Electoral Officer B R Sharma said.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Mr Sharma said the voters per cent could increase as the reports from some polling stations were yet to be compiled.
The contest for the Bhaderwah seat is between State Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress and the BJP's Dhanatar Singh, the only other candidate in the fray.
Former Power Minister Mohammed Shrief Niaz had vacated the Bhaderwah seat for the Chief Minister.
Polling, which began at 0800 hrs, continued till 1700 hrs.
Elaborate security arrangements were made for the incident-free election.
Of 122 polling stations in the constituency, 44 were categorised sensitive, 48 hyper-sensitive and 20 as normal.
A total 90,476 voters, including 44,310 females, were to decide the political fate of both the candidates.
