13,602 plots to SSP-affected families

Bhopal, Apr 24 (UNI) A total of 13,602 plots have been allotted free of cost, at different rehabilitation sites in this state, to people for submergence area of the Sardar Sarovar Project and several such families have built their houses.

Families not preferring for plots are provided with Rs 50,000 and 1,844 families opted for cash. Of them, 1,546 received Rs 7.73 crore. If these families purchase a house in Madhya Pradesh, stamp and registration fees would be exempted, an official release said, here today.

''Eighty-six sites are being developed for rehabilitating those to be affected by the proposed dam height of 121.92 m,'' said Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) Vice-Chairman Udai Verma.

The responsibility of developing rehab sites is being taken up by NVDA officials and collectors concerned. The Chief Engineer incharge and staff assigned for construction in rehabilitation centres were directed to camp till completion.

Basic amenities such as internal roads, bridges, culverts, drains, hospitals, school and panchayat buildings and seed godowns are being made available at the centres. There are 4,286 families eligible for taking land in return for farms affected by submergence, the release added.
