Udit Narayan faces bigamy charge

Patna, Apr 21 (UNI) Singer Udit Narayan had to confront an unpleasant situation here today when his ''first wife'' Ranjana staged a dharna in front of a hotel here where the artiste was statying with his wife and son.

As Ranjana tried to establish her claim to be the real wife by producing photographs taken at the time of her marriage with the singer in 1984 as per Hindu rites, even as present wife Deepa pleaded innocence in the whole episode.

''My husband Udit had full consent in the marriage with me and he participated with enthusiasm in all rituals pertaining to the ceremony solemnised in the presence of our relatives and priests'', Ranjana insisted.

''I still regard Udit as my husband and his present consort can not be accepted as legal wife'', she argued.

Udit Narayan refused to comment on the issue.

Timely intervention of the police saved the situation and the singer and Deepa were escorted to the airport, where Deepa's relatives exhibited their muscle power to chase away scribes and TV cameramen.
