Suit against actor Divya Dutta sent for arbitration
Mumbai, Apr 21 (UNI) A suit claiming compensation of Rs 73 lakh from TV and film actor Divya Dutta for breach of contract was today sent for arbitration by the Bombay High Court.
The order was passed by Justice D K Deshmukh referring the case for arbitration to Justice Kochhar, a former High Court judge, after Dutt's lawyer gave an undertaking she would not sell her apartment in the upscale Juhu locality in the city until disposal of the case.
Drama producer Sameer Vashi had filed the suit in June last year, saying the actor quit his play 'Mujhe Rang De' in breach of her contract. In his petition, he said Dutta left his play 'Mujhe Rang De' due to a personal conflict with co-actor Ayesh Jhulka, his wife.
Due to this, he said he suffered financial losses as he had to cancel his shows in the United States and, therefore , should be awarded a compensation of Rs 73 lakh.
Dutta's counsel, however, argued she had quit as she was not keeping well.
But Vashi's lawyer informed the court that Dutta had accepted other contracts recently, including a film with director J P Dutta.
The petitioner sought attachment of Dutta's property as compensation to recover his losses.
