Naidu predicts mid-term poll
Kozhikode, Apr 21 (UNI) The results of the coming assembly polls would have a bearing on national politics and force the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre to order mid-term elections, senior BJP leader M Venkiah Naidu said today.
''The ruling conglomeration will become more unstable either way'' leading a situation where the country may have to go in for another round of elections, he claimed at a meet-the-press programme here.
Recalling CPI national Secretary D Raja's statement yesterday that the Left would reconsider support to the UPA as it deviated from the Common Minimum Programme(CMP) of governance, he said it would be very difficult for the government to continue in power so long.
CPI (M) general secretary had also said that the assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Union Territory of Pondicherry will have an impact on the national political scenario as serious differences cropped up betwee them on issues such as economic, industry, disinvestment, labour Iran nuke case, he recalled.
''Only for keeping the BJP at bay, they are extending support to the government,'' he said.
The Congress, in order to cling on power, was wary of attacking the CPI (M), which was its main enemy in Kerala and West Bengal, he said referring to election speeches of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
All other alliance partners, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP), Telengana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS), and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), had also expressed anger against the government, he said.
Underscoring the need for an alternative to UDF and LDF, in Kerala, he said both the players had wasted their successive terms as there was no development in the state.
Today the largest migration in the country after Bihar is from Kerala. Why should people go out in search of job outside if there is real development, as claimed by UDF leaders, he wondered.
He said BJP was making all out efforts to open its account in the state assembly. ''Let one lotus bloom this time'' then we will work hard to spread the party across the state,'' he said.
