More Autonomy for Zilla parishads

Chittoor, Apr 21 (UNI) Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar today said the Andhra Pradesh government would soon devolve ten supervisory powers to the zilla parishads here.

Addressing a zilla parisad meeting here, he said an agreement would be signed for the devolution by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and himself tomorrow for the devolution of powers and financial autonomy to Panchayati Raj inistitutions.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 500 crore for development of backward villages in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

Earlier, the Union Minister offered worship to Lord Varasiddhi, Vinayaka at Kasnipakam in Chittoor district.

Later, he also participated in Grama Sabha attended by local village body and interacted with the villagers on national rural employment guarantee scheme.
