Five hardcore NLFT rebels surrender in Tripura

Agartala, Apr 21 (UNI) Five hardcore National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) militants today surrendered to the Assam Rifles at Kanchanpur in Tripura's North district.

Assam Rifles sources said here that the five NLFT (BM faction) laid down arms and ammunition before Brigadier Abhoyranjan at a simple ceremony where senior officials from Assam Rifles and State police were present.

The number of arms and ammunition deposited by the militants to the authority are yet to be known, the sources stated.

The militants who surrendered admitted that they were fed up with the jungle life and chose to return to normal life. All of them fled from camps in Bangladesh where they underwent arms training.

Financial crisis is one of the main reason to return to the mainstream, they added.

Welcoming the rebels, the Brig assured of all help from the para-military forces as well from Government. He also urged them to work for the development of Tripura as well for the betterment of the country.
