Pattambi, Kerala, Apr 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today called upon the poeple of Kerala to give a fresh mandate to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to continue the development work it had undertaken in all sectors during the last five years.

Addressing an election rally here, he said the UPA government at the Centre and the UDF government in Kerala had been implementing several schemes aimed at solving the problems faced by the farmers and workers in the traditional industries.

Claiming that the UDF alone could eradicate poverty and create job opportunities, Dr Singh said the state's economic growth had gone up to 12.2 per cent during the UDF rule.

Stating that there had been remarkable growth in the health and education sectors during the last five years, he said no other states had reached the half way mark in these fields. The highly literate state must exploit the opportunity opening up for its youth by attracting investment to turn it into a knowledge-based society.
