Panchkula to host Twenty20 Cricket Nationals

Chandigarh, Apr 20; Twelve teams, including two playing under the Indian Twenty20 Cricket Federation (ITCF) banner, will take part in the first edition of the Senior National Twenty-20 Cricket Championship to be held at Panchkula Sports Complex, near here, from May 23 to 27.

PTCA president and chairman of the organising committee I D Kamboj said two teams from each zone, would compete in the championship. The matches would be played under the International Twenty20 Cricket Federation.

Coloured clothes, black screens and yellow balls would be used and the organising committee has promised to leave no stone unturned to make it a grand success.

Efforts would also be made to play the final under lights. ''We are discussing various issues, including conducting the final under lights, with the ITCF president Piyush Rana, '' said Kamboj.

The teams will be divided into four groups and one top team from each group will move into the semi-final stage.

The PTCA will conduct trials on April 21 at the Ch Devi Lal Sports Complex at 3 p.m to select the district team for particiption in the Haryana State Twenty20 Cricket Championship at Panipat from May four to seven. Two probables will be shortlisted for the 10-day camp which begins April 22, district association secretary general R P Chopra said.
