Nine dead, 11 injured in accident in Jharkhand

Garhwa, Jharkhand, Apr 19: At least nine people, including five women, were killed while 11 others seriously injured after a truck crushed them tonight near Dumrunarayanpur village, three km from this district headquarter town.

According to police, some women along with children were going to perform 'Matikor' (matrimonial rite) when the truck, coming from the opposite side, ran over them killing eight of them on the spot.

Another person, a drum player, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital where the injured were admitted.

The police have seized the truck while its driver is absconding.

Angry villagers have blocked Garhwa-Lanka road in protest against the incident, police added.
