Eight-member gang robs sandalwood worth Rs 1 lakh

Davanagere, Karnataka, Apr 20 (UNI) An eight-member gang of dacoits struck at the forest office here early today and decamped with sandalwood worth Rs one lakh after injuring its watchman.

Police said the gang members, in the age group of 25-30 came in a vehicle and gained entry into the office after attacking the watchman with deadly weapons. As they could not get any cash from the office, they made away with the sandalwood stacked in the premises.

The watchman was admitted to the government hospital here.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.
