Postal dept's move to curb courier industry: ASSOCHAM
New Delhi, Apr 20: The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) today opposed the Postal Department's decision to prevent the courier industry from carrying packets below 300 grams.
The chamber said the decision was ''unfortunate and against the spirit of liberalisation and globalisation'.
In a statement issued here, ASSOCHAM President Anil K Agarwal said that preventing the courier industry from carrying postal packets below 300 grams will create more monopolistic tendencies and discourage competition.
He urged the authorities concerned to review the decision and leave it to the customers to decide whether they would like their postal deliveries through state-owned systems or by way of handing them over to private couriers.
