Children from Manipur to be trained for Olympics

Imphal, Apr 20: Army has planned to identify talented children from Manipur and train them for Olympics.

Mission Olympics, Chief of Army staff General JJ Singh's brainchild, has begun the talent hunt in Manipur.

The 57 Mountain Division and the state sports department have selected 15 children from the state for training at Army Sports Institute in Pune.

They were examined by doctors and experts before selection, the army officials said here today.

The children would specialise in athletics, boxing, swimming and weightlifting.

Army sources said they would provide all necessary assistance for the training so that India could perform well in the next Olympics.

The army has given special focus on the state for its contribution to sports in spite of the disturbed law and order situation.
