Office-of-profit: Cong should not nullify Constitution
Hyderabad, Apr 19: Keeping in view the Parliament session from May 10, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government should not do anything contrary to the rationale behind Constitutional provisions on the office-of-profit issue.
Addressing a press conference here, he said Articles 102 and 103 were incorporated in the Constitution after a thorough discussion in the Constituent Assembly and nothing should be done to undo the rationale behind the constitutional provisions.
To a question, Mr Advani, who was here as part of his Bharat Suraksha Yatra, denied the BJP had delayed fielding its candidate against Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the May 8 by-election in Rae Bareli after she resigned on the office-of-profit issue.
Replying to another question, the former Deputy Prime Minister admitted that party leader Vinay Katiyar was initially reluctant to contest as he was already a Rajya Sabha member. 'He will not be a scapegoat. He will give a good fight to her', he added.
The response to his yatra, which had so far covered 1881 km in 10 days, exceeded his expectations, he added.
