Employment on merit, says Wipro
Bangalore, Apr 19: Wipro Czar Azim Premji today said his company would recruit employees purely on merit basis.
Speaking to newspersons after announcing the company's 2005-06 results, he said the software major, which crossed two billion dollars in revenue deriving 80 per cent of it from global operations, was largely ''people dependant.'' Without commenting on the current controversy on private sector providing reservation in employment, Mr Premji said, ''We have no alternative other than hiring best talent as IT services are people dependant...we have to seek people with merit''.
He said the company, which had over 53,000 employees, would be hiring people across the country for its operations in various centres, including Bangalore where it had a large presence.
However, he declined to divulge the numbers of vacancies.
