Eight dead, 12 injured in accident in Ranchi

Garhwa, Ranchi, Apr 19 (UNI) At least eight people, including five women and three children, were killed while 12 others seriously injured after a truck crushed them tonight near Dumrunarayanpur village, three km from this district headquarter town.

According to police, some women along with children were going to perform 'Matikor' (matrimonial rite) when the truck, coming from the opposite side, ran over them killing eight of them on the spot.

The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

The police have seized the truck while its driver is absconding.

Angry villagers have blocked Garhwa-Lanka road in protest against the incident, police added.
