Woman jailed for possessing 89 live turtles

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) A city court has sent a woman to jail for possessing 89 live Indian Soft Shelled turtles.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain remanded Omwati to judicial custody till May 1 for being in possession of the endangered species.

The court also ordered that the turtles to be released in the Yamuna river.

Omwati was arrested from Najafgarh area in South West Delhi yesterday and charged under the provisions of Wildlife Protection Act.
