Villagers to agitate against World Bank funded roads
Aizawl, Apr 18: Disappointed with the alleged negative development of events about construction of the World Bank funded roads, villagers staying along these areas have decided to take out a procession to the chief minister's residence here on April 25.
The decision was taken today at a meeting of representatives of various NGOs over the failure on the part of the contractors and the state government to fulfill promise that construction of the road would commence from yesterday.
The meeting condemned the contractors and the state government for failing to abide by the agreement made between the three parties last month.
The residents of these villages, through which the World Bank funded roads runs, complain that since only widening has been done and no soling or black topping made, the road is very dusty in the dry season and very muddy in the wet season.
'To show our displeasure with the inaction on the part of the government and the contractors involved, we have scheduled a protest procession from Kulikawn to the chief minister's residence,' the joint meeting affirmed.
