Three killed, eleven militants arrested, hide out busted in J
Srinagar, Apr 18 (UNI) Three persons, including a militant, were killed while security forces arrested ten militants and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in the state overnight.
An official spokesman said militants shot dead Haji Mohammad Sharief, a sarpanch, and Manzoor Hussain at Sumwali late last night.
He said A militant Nazir Ahmad alias Shahbaz too was killed in inter group clash at Bhaina Kheswan last night.
Last night in a joint operation, security forces and police arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) Mohammad Shabir at Kandi.
A defence ministry spokesman said troops of 29 Rashtriya Rifles, in a search operation in village Chanderhoma, Widhipura and Lullipora in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, busted a number of hide outs and recovered a large quantity of arms. The recoveries included three AK 47 Rifles, six magazines, 32 Ak rounds, one 9 mm Carbine with silencer, two INSAS Rifles, one magazine, 12 rounds, one carbine, six UBGL launcher, 40 UBGL grenades, 250 Sniper rounds, two wilreless sets, 10 antennas, one Chinese Pistol, two magazines, two Hand grenades, 45 remote controlled improvised exlosive devices, 20 detonators, 100 IED circuits, two galvanometers, two fake rubber stamps of Naib Tehsildar, Pattan and Police Station Pattan and a diary containing IED data and two fake identity cards.
The spokesman said police and troops in joint operations apprehended ten top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants from Sopre and Pattan in Baramulla district.
The militants were involved in several killings and other militancy-related activities in the Kashmir valley.
Two of the arrested militants, Hilal and Nissar have confessed involvement in killing of three personnel of the Special Task Force (STF) and a civilian, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai, of Dangarpura village on May 29 last year.
According to the official spokesman two other militants, Mehraj-ud-din and Imtiyaz, were involved in the killing of two civilians at the Sopore bus stand in October last year. Besides involved in killings, Tariq Ahmad Rather and Nissar were also managing finance and equipment for the Hizb, he added.
He said the group was active in Baramulla and Srinagar districts and they have confessed their involvement in killing of civilians, two STF personnel in Chankhan, Sopore and few SPOs.
The militants were also instrumental in planting IEDs in the area and grenade blasts in the Sopore town between 2004-06, the spokesman said.
The apprehended militants revealed that they were planning to eliminate candidates from Rafiabad and Pattan before the bypolls.
The spokesman said four Chinese pistols with ammunition, 15 Chinese grenades, four kg of explosive material and three electronic detonators were seized from the ultras.
