Normality restored on Manipur highways

Imphal, Apr 18 (UNI) Trucks started plying freely today on the National Highways in Manipur after the Kuki Students' Organisation and Zeliangrong Students' Union called off the 17-day long economic blockade on the highways.

The two organisations said they called off the blockade following an agreement reached last evening with Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh. The blockade was called to protest delay in construction of a road connecting Tamenglong with Senapati district.

The government had assured them to complete the work within a time frame. The students' bodies would check the quality of work.

Earlier, during the blockade the government provided security to bring in all vehicles. However, many vehicles were damaged by strike supporters.
