No Independents in fray in first phase in Pondy

Pondicherry, Apr 18 (UNI) No Independent candidates are in fray in two out of the three constituencies going to polls in the first phase on May 3 in the Union Territory of Pondicherry.

Mahe, Palloor and Yanam constituencies will go to polls in the first phase.

Four candidates each of the Congress, CPM, BJP and AIADMK are left in the fray in both Mahe and Palloor constituencies where the main contest will be between the Congress and the CPM.

However, in Yanam constitency, out of the 11 candidates left in fray, seven are Independents. The main fight in the constituency will be between the Congress candidate Malladi Krishna Rao and the Congress rebel Raksha Harikrishna, contesting as an Independent.

Harikrishna was expelled from the party for anti-party activites.
