Nine candidates in fray for Rae Bareli bypoll

Lucknow, Apr 18 (UNI) Samajwadi Party nominee Rajkumar Chowdhary and three other candidates filed their nominations today for the May 8 byelection to Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, from where Congress president Sonia Gandhi is seeking re-election.

Official sources said here that besides Mr Chowdhary -- the son-in-law of former union minister Beni Prasad Verma -- three Independents filed nominations for the high profile bypoll, taking the total number of candidates in the fray so far to nine.

April 20 is the last date for filing ofnominations, while scrutiny of papers takes place the next day. Nominations can be withdrawn till April 24.
