NDRI scientists develop method for detecting 'synthetic milk'

Karnal, Apr 18 (UNI) Scientists at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), here have succeeded in developing a platform test for detection of detergent in milk.

Dr Sushil Kumar, Director NDRI said this testing technique and method developed in the Dairy Chemistry Division is simple, and it detects detergent in milk up to 0.0125 percent (12.5 mg/100 ml).

Dr Kumar also said detergents are believed to be one of the essential components of the so called 'Synthetic Milk'.

The technique developed, he said, had displayed significant improvement over the existing methods and would establish presence or absence of detergents in milk at dairy plant or milk collection center level. He further added that the detection method developed here does not require expensive reagents and results could be available in five to ten minutes time.
