MSD scam accused sent to jail

Patna, Apr 18 (UNI) Special CBI judge of Patna Ramanand Sharma today remanded proprietor of Kolkata-based transport agency Arun Kumar Roy, an accused in a case of multi-crore Medical Store Depot (MSD) scam of Bihar, to judicial custody till May 1.

During the day, accused Mr Roy surrendered before the court with a request of bail which was refused.

The case was related to the illegal purchase of medicines worth Rs 75,99,905 in Dhaka referral hospital in East Champaran district of Bihar from Government Medical Store Depot (GMSD), Kolkata from 1992 to 1995.

According to the charges, medicines worth more than Rs 19 lakh was misappropriated by Mr Roy in course of transportation.

The CBI had already submitted chargesheet in the case in 2004 against Mr Roy, the then Assistant Director General of GMSD Kolkata Randhir Mandal and in-charge medical officer of Dhaka referral hospital Dr B N Singh, after an FIR was registered in 2000.
