Master Plan for overall development of Palace city

Mysore, Apr 18 (UNI) A master plan will be prepared for the overall development of the palace city, including its beautification, Karnataka Housing and district incharge Minister D T Jayakumar announced today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the plan would be prepared by the City Corporation, along with other departments including the Mysore Urban Development Authority. A Committee would be formed soon to conduct a detail study about the city's requirements and its report would be submitted to the government for approval.

Stating that there was no dearth of funds for the development of the city, Mr Jayakumar said Mysore had received Rs 750 crore from the Centre under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission and it would be utilised for the purpose.

He assured that steps would be taken to promote tourism in and around Mysore by introducing new tour packages.

Stating that the annual Dasara festivities would be conducted in a grand manner with the help of private participation, the Minister said a meeting would be convened soon to chalkout the plans for the festivities.

On the introduction of the sound and light programmes in the world famous Palace premises, Mr Jayakumar said the project had almost been completed. It would be introduced soon after the last scion of the Wodeyar dynasty Srikanatadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar cleared the script prepared for programme.

He informed that six welcome signboards would be installed at the city's entry point, involving private participation.

Earlier, Mr Jayakumar held a review meeting at the Corporation office and instructed officials to ensure that sufficient drinking water was supplied to the people of the city. He also visited the Hongali water supply station from where the city received drinking water.
