Manipur muslims demand reservation

Imphal, Apr 18 (UNI) The All Manipur Muslim Student Organisation (AMMSO) has urged chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh to announce a reservation policy for muslims by April 24.

Muslims in Manipur, commonly known as 'Meitei Pangal', constitutes 8 per cent of the total population, the AMMSO said.

AMMSO said there was adequate ground for reservation in educational institutions and government sector.

AMMSO claimed that the muslims are socially and economically most backward in comparison with other communities in the state.

Remedial measures should be taken in the form of reservation in educational institutions as well as in government employment, the AMMSO said.
