Krishna water usage: K'taka Govt asked to form squad
Bijapur, Karnataka, Apr 18: Charging Maharashtra with violating the Krishna Water Tribunal Bachawat award and utilising more water by enhancing its storage capacity, the Bhima River Water Protection Committee Farmers Wing today urged the Karnataka Government to form a special squad to study the issue.
Talking to newspersons here, its President Panchappa Kalburgi claimed that while the award allowed the upper riparian State to utilise 585 TMC FT of water on Krishna basin by storing 395 TMC FT, it was using 650 TMC FT by stepping up the storage, thus posing a threat to Karnataka.
The special squad should study the matter and bring it to the notice of the tribunal, headed by Mr Justice Brijesh Kumar, which had started hearing the submissions of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, he said.
