IT Jt Commissioner, CA arrested on bribery charges

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The Joint Commissioner (Income Tax) Kolkata has been arrested along with a Chartered Accountant for allegedly accepting bribe in connection with the Invome Tax assessment of an engineering company owner.

K K Tripathi, Jt Commissioner (Range 32) Kolkata, was arrested yesterday along with CA Manoj Tiwari, the CBI said today.

Rs one lakh in cash, jewellery worth 5.44 lakh and more than six lakh worth household goods were recovered in raids from his house.

Accused Tripathi had demanded Rs five lakh to act favourably in approving a proposal by the ITO to levy eight per cent tax on the annual income of the company owner, which had been taken up for scrutiny.
