Inclement weather claims ten lives in UP

Lucknow, Apr 18 (UNI) Ten people, including two women, have been killed by thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rains during the last 24 hours across Uttar Pradesh.

Police department sources said here today five people, including a woman, were killed after being struck by lightning and incident of wall collapse triggered by rains in Mirzapur district, while three people including a woman were killed by thunder-storm and six others injured in Allahabad district.

Natural lightning and heavy rains also killed two people in the state capital besides injuring five others.

Meanwhile, State Weather Office said here today a maximum of 25.8 mm rainfall was recorded in Varanasi followed by 14.6 mm in Lucknow, 7.9 mm in Gorakhpur, 7.2 mm in Bareilly and 4.7 mm in Sultanpur.

Squalls was also reported from Pratapgarh and Mirzapur district.

The rains pulled down the above normal maximum temperatures by eight degrees in the state capital.

The met department has forecast rains and thunder showers in many parts of the state over the next 24 hours.
