HC grants bail to phone tapping case prime accused
New Delhi, Apr 18: Delhi High Court today granted bail to Dr Anurag Kumar, nabbed by the Delhi police on charges of illegally tapping phone of Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Parliament Amar Singh.
Justice B D Ahmed ordered the release of Dr Kumar on furnishing a bail bond of Rs one lakh and a surety of like amount.
Senior Counsel Dinesh Mathur, appearing for Dr Kumar submitted that the accused might be released on bail as he had been in judicial custody for more than three months.
As the investigation was complete, there was no chance of him tampering with the evidence, he pleaded.
In his order, Justice Ahmed said the accused should not leave the country without informing the police and should be present before the special branch of Delhi police on first Monday of every month.
