DPI to contest on AIADMK symbol

Pondicherry, Apr 18 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India(DPI) candidates contesting the May 3 and 8 assembly elections in the union territory of Pondicherry in the AIADMK front will contest on the two leaves symbol of the AIADMK.

AIADMK sources here said the party high command had granted permission for this following a request from the DPI. The party is contesting Embalom and Nedumgadu constituencies.

The AIADMK is contesting 16 seats in the alliance.

There was speculation that the candidates of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC), another AIADMK ally, would contest on the AIADMK symbol. However, it was made clear that ten candidates of PMC would contest on free symbols.

In the AIADMK led front, AIADMK is contesting 16 seats, PMC 10, DPI 2 and MDMK 2.
