CAT adjourns hearing on Sreekumar petition

Ahmedabad, Apr 18 (UNI) The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) today adjourned the hearing on the petition of Additional Director General of Police R B Sreekumar, who had challenged his supercession in February last year.

The matter was adjourned as one of judges comprising the division bench was on leave. It will be now heard on May 2.

Mr Sreekumar, in his petition, had contended that he had not been given promotion as he had refused to toe the Gujarat government's line while deposing before the Nanavati-Shah Commission probing the Godhra train carnage and the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

He had also challenged the seal cover method that the state government had adopted for considering his promotion matter.

The Gujarat government counsel B N Doctor had argued that as there was a criminal case against Mr Sreekumar, it had been deemed necessary to adopt for the seal cover method. He had also filed an application saying Mr Sreekuamr should approach the Central government with his case.

After hearing both the sides, the CAT bench comprising Justices Shanker Prasad and V S Singhvi had admitted Mr Sreekumar's petition on February 8.
