Australia captain Ponting fined for dissent

CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh, Apr 18 (Reuters) Australia captain Ricky Ponting was fined 25 percent of his match fee for showing dissent towards an umpire during the second test against Bangladesh.

Ponting was unhappy after Bangaldesh batsman Aftab Ahmed was ruled not out by the third umpire on the first day of the match yesterday.

The Australian skipper attended a disciplinary hearing chaired by match referee Jeff Crowe after the second day's play.

''Although I have sympathy for Ricky I cannot accept his move towards the on-field umpires as they made a move towards resuming play,'' Crowe said in a statement.

Australia lead the two-match series 1-0.
