Amritsar citizens form human chain around Ram bagh

Amritsar, Apr 18 (UNI) The volunteers of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Amritsar Chapter and the school children today formed a human chain around Maharaja Ranjit Singh Summer Palace at Ram Bagh in the city.

''Save heritage'', ''our heritage, our identity'' were the slogans raised by the participants, which included members of INTACH, laughter club and INTACH-School Heritage Clubs, as they formed the chain around the heritage site.

The students of Architecture Departments, members of Art Gallery and Vikas March also participated in the event.

Speaking on this occasion, INTACH's Punjab and concern Dr Sukhdev Singh explained the significance of the World Heritage Day and appealed the citizens to preserve their heritage and cultural diversity.

Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala demanded provision of special fund for preservation of heritage, while Dr Bhajan Singh Lark also spoke on the concept of Heritage. School Children from schools also shared their vision on cultural heritage.

The school children participated in the painting and riddle competitions including other events like the traditional sports.

The speakers emphasised the need of forming a conservation cell in the Municipal Corporation and proper upkeep of Ram Bagh and other heritage sites in this historic city.
