Advani seeks vote for a progressive alternative
Kozhikode, Apr 18 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today urged the electorate in Kearla to vote for a progressive political alternative to the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-headed LDF for the all-round development of the state.
''Kerala is cursed by the two communal, corrupt, self-serving and incompetent political fronts,'' he claimed, adding ''it is time for the electorate to liberate the state from the vice-like grip of these two fronts.'' Addressing a meet-the-press programme here, he said though the alternative would not materialise in the April/May Assembly poll, he urged the voters to ensure the victory of a maximum number of BJP candidates heralding a change.
Expressing happiness over the steady growth of the BJP, he said the party had polled 12 per cent vote in the 2004 general elections despite the existing political polarisation between the Congress and the CPI(M) in the state.
The undivided Communist party was the main Opposition party in the Lok Sabha during the 1960s with representation from all the north Indian states but that party gradually disappeared from the scene following political polarisation between the Congress and the BJP.
The Communist parties had become very weak in the north without having representation even in the local bodies in the Hindi heartland, he claimed.
Noting that BJP was not against Muslims or Christians, he alleged that a propaganda campaign was being unleashed by these forces to describe the party as anti-minority in order to meet their ''nefarious political designs''.
''It was the Congress and the Communists who are hurting both the minorities and the cause of national integration by their competitive politics of minorityism, he alleged.
Describing both the fronts as two sides of the same coin, he said the people had suffered miserably under their ''misrule'' in alternative terms since formation of the state in 1957.
The NDA government was able to contain inflation whereas people were suffering because of sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities under the UPA regime, he charged.
