Mangalore, Apr 17: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani today alleged that the wrong policies pursued by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was responsible for the spread of naxalite activities across the country.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Advani, who was leading the Bharat Suraksha Yatra, accused the UPA government of having failed to implement an order issued by the previous BJP-led NDA government in 1998, facilitating joint command operations against naxalite activities.

To a question, he said the Yatra had evoked a good response.

On the recent blast at the Jama Masjid in New Delhi, Mr Advani said unless the government initiated steps to check terrorism, such incidents would recur.

He later left for Kasargod in Kerala.
