Seven killed, 19 injured in lorry-van collission
Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) Seven people, including three women were crushed to death and 19 others injured when a van, carrying a marriage party, collided with a truck at Mevalurkuppam near Sriperumbudur on the Chennai-Bangalore highway today.
While four people, including the driver and two labourers travelling in the stone-laden truck and a woman travelling in the van were killed on the spot, three others succumbed to injuries at the Government General hospital here, police said.
In all, 20 people were travelling in the van. They were proceeding to Mapedu village near Sriperumbudur from Thirumullaivoil near Avadi to finalise a marriage alliance.
The truck in which six people were travelling was on its way to Poonamallee from Sunkuvarchatram, when the mishap occured. After colliding with the van, the truck overturned, killing three of the occupants on the spot. The other three, a couple and their two-year-old girl were admitted to a hospital, police added.
