SC permits SCBA to withdrawn application seeking exemption

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court today permitted the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to withdraw its application seeking exemption for professionals such as lawyers, doctors and chartered accountants from the ongoing sealing process on the grounds that commercial activities do not include them.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker dismissed the application of SCBA as withdrawn after senior counsel Mukul Rohatagi appearing for SCBA told the court that the petitioner would approach the High Court for relief.

It may be noted that the apex court had last week refused to exempt the lawyers from the sealing process launched against commercial establishments operating from the residential areas as per the orders of the Supreme Court dated February 16, 2006.
