Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) The ruling AIADMK today received a shot in the arm, ahead of the ensuing Assembly polls, when Kollywood actor R Sarathkumar joined the party.
The popular actor and DMK Rajya Sabha MP, met AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa, who was on a campaign trial in the southern district of Theni, and joined the party along with his supporters.
The actor had resigned from the Primary membership of the DMK on April ten, alleging that he was insulted and humiliated by the family members close to DMK President M Karunanidhi. He also alleged that he was continuously sidelined in the party.
Refuting the charge, Mr Karunanidhi said he had always held the actor in high esteem, and appealed to him to reconsider his decision.
Stating that he was given prominence in the DMK's State Conference in Tiruchirapalli, Mr Karunanidhi recalled Sarathkumar's speech that he would remain in the party till his death and his body should be draped with the DMK flag.
Reacting to Mr Sarathkumar joining the AIADMK, Mr Karunanidhi told newspersons here that the actor had sent a fresh letter this morning saying he was resigning both from the DMK and also as the Rajya Sabha Member. His Rajya Sabha term was to end in July next year.
