Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Janata Dal (United) president K Rajasekaran today resigned from his post, owning responsibility for the confusion in the party's alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a statement here, he said after he forged an alliance with the BJP, the then JD(U) president George Fernandes had announced the tie-up was made without his knowledge and that the party would go it alone in the state.

Considering party unity, he was left with no option but to toe the line of the high command, though Mr Fernandes was replaced by Mr Sarad Yadav in the recent elections to the Presidentship.

However, he felt that he had betrayed both the BJP and the volunteers of JD(U), who were hitherto working with the BJP. As he was no more interested in continuing, he was resigning as state party president, Mr Rajasekaran said.
